Presidio Tunnel Tops and THE ALVARADO PROJECT SF to Host a grounding breaking Launch Event for the Catalog Book, “Focus on Community-The Ricardo Alvarado Photography Archive at Stanford”
Sunday, December 10, 2023, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Picturesque Tunnel Tops in the Presidio
The Alvarado Project and Stanford University proudly announce the publication of a fresh new perspective of renowned photographer, Ricardo Alvarado’s work.
The Alvarado Project is thrilled to announce the launch of its new catalog book, “Focus on Community-The Ricardo Alvarado Photography Archive at Stanford,” with a special event at Presidio Tunnel Tops on Sunday, December 10, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM PST.
The book showcases the incredible photography of Ricardo Alvarado, a prolific Filipino American photographer who captured the lives of Filipino American communities
in San Francisco during the 1940s and 1950s. Alvarado’s photographs are a powerful and poignant testament to the resilience, strength, and beauty of these communities. Moreover, it is fitting we celebrate Ricardo Alvarado’s photographs at Presidio Letterman Army Hospital, his place of employment as a civilian cook for twenty years following World War II.
The catalog book launch event will feature a variety of activities, including:
-
A presentation by Ricardo’s daughter, curator, Janet Alvarado, who will discuss her father’s life and work
-
A book signing with Anna C. Lee, Exhibit Co-Curator of Photography, Angelo Ancheta, Asian Immigration Law Specialist, Janet Alvarado, Daughter and Curator for The Alvarado Project, and Angelo Celina González, Poet & LMFT
-
