Event Details

Come have fun at Cape & Cowl Con, a free, family-friendly, one-day comic convention celebrating the very best comics, artists, and makers our community has to offer!

Hosted by Cape & Cowl Comics, the Eisner award-winning comic book shop located in downtown Oakland for ten amazing years. This year’s Cape & Cowl Con will be the 4th annual community comic convention! We are bringing over 150 artists, writers, comics publishers, and vendors out to Faction Brewing in Alameda for this celebration of comics, art, and pop culture.

We are bringing in some of the most exciting comics creators working today. Our list of over 75 special guests includes:

  • Patrick Horvath (writer/artist of Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, Free For All)
  • Pornsak Pichetshote (writer of Infidel, Absolute Green Arrow, The Good Asian)
  • Tini Howard (writer of Marian Heretic, Sirens: Love Hurts, Excalibur)
  • Babs Tarr (artist of Sirens: Love Hurts, Motor Crush, Batgirl of Burnside)
  • Mariko Tamaki (writer of Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me, Zatanna: Bring Down the House, This Place Kills Me)
  • Terry & Rachel Dodson (artists of Adventureman, Harley Quinn, Ultimate Endgame)

In addition to our Artist Alley and Vendor Marketplace, we will have a Kids Area with games, art supplies, and more. Our guest list includes great authors of kids through YA comics, including:

  • Maggie Tokuda Hall (writer of The Worst Ronin, Squad, Love in the Library)
  • Gene Luen Yang (writer of American Born Chinese, Lunar New Year Love Story, Dragon Hoops, TMNT)
  • Shawn Harris and Mac Barnett (writer and artist of The First Cat in Space)
  • Briana Loewinsohn (writer/artist of Ephemera, Raised By Ghosts)

Attendees will be able to grab food from a selection of local food trucks and pick up exclusive beers from the brewery, which can be enjoyed at outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the Bay. The goal of Cape & Cowl Con has always been to celebrate our rich and varied comics community, which is why we’ve invited many of the other comic shops from around the greater Bay Area to table at the convention. This truly special event is for the Bay by the Bay!
