Mission Comics & Art is proud to announce this year’s Free Comic Book Day celebration will conclude with a live in-store event, celebrating the release of Cloud Town, the newest middle-grade graphic novel from the publisher of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales, and the mainstream publishing debut of our sales associate Daniel McCloskey.
Cloud Town, is the story of two teenage girls growing up and growing apart on a floating island full of giant monsters and mad scientists. McCloskey started writing this story in Pittsburgh PA but moved to Oakland CA as he began drawing the artwork and the Bay Area influence is certainly there.
McCloskey explains, “I was on a small boat in the San Francisco Bay when the fog rolled in. It moved like it was alive and when it swallowed me and the boat, I couldn’t see the shore or the sky. It was like I’d been transported to a different world. That’s the kind of feeling I hope the Cloud in my story gives the reader. After all in Cloud Town, the Cloud is coming from a tear in the fabric of the universe. The Cloud comes from the same place the monsters live.”
“Weirdly and unexpectedly wonderful.”
―Kirkus Reviews
“Meet Daniel McCloskey – a bold, new cartooning voice! Cloud Town is a beast! It’s original. It’s different. It’s full of energy and life! Kaiju, skateboarding, manga, YA, so many ideas, and great cartooning! This is a special graphic novel. It feels like the future.”
―Jim Rugg: Eisner Award-winning cartoonist behind Hulk Grand Design, The PLAIN Janes, Street Angel, and Cartoonist Kayfabe
A limited number of free radiograph prints will be available with the purchase of Cloud Town.
