Did you know that dahlias are the official flower of San Francisco?Dahlias – like people – come in all shapes, colors, and sizes, and like San Franciscans, dahlias are a bit eccentric, love our climate, and have a fascinating history.
The dahlias are blooming at the Dahlia Dell in Golden Gate Park! Come to the Dahlia Dell on Sunday, August 4, to enjoy an eye-popping morning of free tours (starting at 11am and 11:30am) led by experts with the all-volunteer Dahlia Society of California. Learn the secrets of growing dahlias and the history of this unique flower to San Francisco.
Also on Aug. 4, we will be inaugurating our newly revamped Hillside Garden (adjacent to the Dell) at a special ribbon cutting ceremony at Noon (Note the new time, originally it was scheduled for 10:30am). Friendly volunteers will be on hand throughout the morning to field your questions about growing dahlias and joining the dahlia society. Free. No tickets required. Perfect for all ages.
