Event Details

Free all-day celebration of the arts with Bay Area artists and San Francisco Public Library supporting the Equity School Partnership Project and highlighting family friendly activities at the museum. Free eye exams and reading materials for kids and youth provided.

On May 4, 2024, young thinkers, learners, and visionaries are welcome back to the de Young museum to experience it’s annual free community day for children – the de Youngsters Day Out – a fun-filled day of creativity and wonder. Museum-wide activations will be led by the museum’s teaching artists, enabling Bay Area children to engage with the permanent collections in hands-on activities.

The exciting programming offered for youngsters at the museum will include the San Francisco Public Library’s “Library on Wheels,” serving the community with accessible reading materials for children and parents, and free eye exams by Zenni Eyewear. Teaching artist Timothy B and museum educators will lead a museum takeover of art activities, including Sketching in the Galleries, Pocket Sculpture, Family Art Making, and Art ALIVE.

Co-chaired by Max Boyer Glynn, Darby Gaynor Glickman, and Damon Johnson, the de Youngsters Day Out event raises crucial funds for arts education through the Equity School Partnership Project—an initiative with the San Francisco and Oakland Unified School Districts that provides museum transportation, art education, class visits, to students in the Bay Area.
