The legendary Bay Area hip-hop group Souls of Mischief are coming to the de Young. The day includes a film screening of their documentary ‘Til Infinity: The Souls of Mischief, followed by a panel with Opio, Phesto, Tajai and A-Plus followed by a performance in Wilsey Court.

The Age of Black Power exploded into political consciousness when groups of marginalized people assembled to assert their right to exist in their own communities. People of color could not gather and demonstrate in a public space without the threat of the government labeling them as subversive; the government would later go on to murder many of these men, women, and children for their beliefs. Today, this is still an unfortunate reality for many.

In response, the Souls of Mischief crew have designed a special day of events hosted in de Young’s public space, reaffirming the right of communities of color to gather publicly in the Bay Area and beyond and proving that public institutions belong to ALL people.

  • Attend a screening of ‘Till Infinity and Q+A with Souls of Mischief: 12:30–3 pm in Koret Theater
  • Join Akira’s Book Club with your little ones for a variety of youth activities: noon–2 pm in PMR
  • Souls of Mischief’s performance: 3–4 pm in Wilsey Court

Admission to the exhibition Soul of a Nation is free.
