Free Japanese Block Party (Nisei + Bar Iris) on Polk

Chef David Yoshimura’s Nisei and Bar Iris will close down Polk Street between Green & Union for a full day of festival-style games, Japanese street food, and a small market, running 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

What started as a way to celebrate the restaurant’s own anniversary has grown into something bigger — a day the team throws open to the whole neighborhood. The street food lineup includes a yakitori station with an assorted variety of grilled chicken skewers, fresh onigiri, kakigori, and a Japanese sando station serving katsu sando, egg sando, and ebi katsu sando, plus oysters and caviar served throughout the evening. The market runs alongside it all, will feature Bar Iris & Nisei’s purveyors and vendors such as Arakawa Pottery’s ceramics with more local vendors to be announced. Bar Iris will be pouring cocktails and will be offering a limited block party menu special for the event.
