Free Outdoor Opera w/ SF Opera Singers (Baker Beach)

Bay Area Youth Join With San Francisco Opera Chorus Singers For Free Outdoor Musical Performance at Baker Beach

What: A group of local elementary school aged youth to perform “Almaya and the Blue Green Wonder” alongside two San Francisco Opera Chorus singers, Harlan Hays and Laurel Porter. Renowned pianist Cesar Cancino will accompany the performance. Cancino is the former music director of Teatro Zinzanni, and has toured with Joan Baez. Percussion is by Bay Area artist Sohrab Bazargannia.  

The musical extravaganza is a culmination of the kids’ summer camp experience to learn singing, dancing, acting. The children painted colorful backdrops for the sets based on David Hockney paintings to evoke a forest and village, and designed and made their own maks for their costumes.

“Almaya and the Blue Green Wonder” is based on a Latvian folk tale about a hunter who falls in love with a goose maiden and their adventures together. It is a new work composed by Sora Jederan Shpack.

The youth are part of Music, Art and Adventure summer camp, a San Francisco based non-profit that offers meaningful outdoor play and exploration for kids grades K-5.
