Painters Unite is a free gathering for anyone who wants to slow down and paint outdoors, together. No class, no pressure, nothing for sale.
I’m Marco Flavio, a watercolor teacher here in the city. I started this because so many people told me they wanted more time to paint and to be around others, and I think that shouldn’t have to cost anything. I’ll be painting right alongside you, same as everyone.
This time we’re meeting at the Palace of Fine Arts, at the intersection of Baker Street and Beach Street at 10AM. From there we’ll have a beautiful view across the lagoon toward the Palace, with the architecture, water, and reflections all in front of us. It’s a great opportunity to play with reflections in watercolor and simplify a pretty spectacular scene into a painting.
As always, I’ll bring a few small challenges, different ways of seeing and painting what’s in front of us. I’ll also have a limited number of pre-drawings of the Palace of Fine Arts on watercolor paper, first come, first served, for beginners who’d like a starting point. Take a challenge, use a pre-draw, or simply find a spot and paint. No experience needed.
Bring a sketchbook and something to draw or paint with. If you have a watercolor kit, bring it. A folding or camping chair is welcome, or a mat or blanket to sit on. Anything that makes it comfortable to settle in for a couple of hours.
