2019 “Nossa Senhora do Monte” Portuguese Festival | Hayward

The Bom Jesus Milagroso (BJM) is a Portuguese religious non-profit organization founded by Portuguese immigrants from the island of Madeira in 1921. The hall, located in Hayward, CA. is used by the community to celebrate various Portuguese religious festivals. Serving the Portuguese community, immigrants from the Portuguese Islands, and mainland Portugal strive to keep their Portuguese traditions alive by celebrating their Portuguese culture. Portuguese communities celebrate various events during the year honoring a Saint or Parish from their homeland.

We will be celebrating The Nossa Senhora do Monte Festival. The Nossa Senhora do Monte means Our Lady of the Mountain in honor of The Blessed Mother. Immigrants from Madeira Island celebrated this festa in honor of their parish built back in the 1500’s, and a way to keep their traditions alive while living away from their homeland.

Each Festa a family or individual will represent and organize the particular weekend event. We are excited that this is the first time the “Moniz Family” will be in charge of the Portuguese Festa.
We will also include the Perreira Family to help with the event since Matilda Perreira is the Patriot of our Portuguese family.

So come join us for a fun filled event celebrating Portuguese culture and heritage at the Festa da Nossa Senhora do Monte August 10th and 11th!

Come prepared with cash (no ATM on site) and ready to enjoy food and festivities with your friends and family.

Admission is free! You can purchase Portuguese food and soft drinks both days. Alcoholic drinks are served in the bar and prices are great. Try your hand at authentic Portuguese Bar-B-Q. You will purchase the meat at the festa, rent a spit for only $2 (long metal rod) and cook the meat over an open fire pit! Nothing is better!

Bring the kids. We’ll have a kids zone with games and prizes.
Adults can enjoy the live auction and great raffle prizes.

Music and dancing in the evening!
Sunday is a Portuguese mass followed by Portuguese singers.
