People in cities all over the world are arranging marches/protests/get togethers to support the group Pussy Riot and to demand their release.
Show up at Justin Herman Plaza at 6:30pm with signs, brightly colored outfits, your Pussy Riot inspired masks and tambourine, harmonica, drums, xylophone, ukulele, triangle or noismaker of your choice and get down to the beats of a revolution.
The ‘Free Pussy Riot’ protest is a worldwide response to Russian authorities detaining three young women for performing an anti-Putin song in a cathedral in Moscow in February. Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Ekaterina Samucevich are the three women and members of Pussy Riot, a feminist collective punk band known for impromptu performances with a political agenda to promote basic rights, gender equality and the lack of justice involving the powers that be.
There are two events going on in San Francisco on Friday August 17. The first protest starts at 3pm at the Russian Consulate (2790 Green Street, San Francisco). The second starts at 6:30pm in Justin Herman Plaza.
