Women’s Film Institute: Free Community Cinema Screening | SF

In 2013, the Women’s Film Institute presents the seventh season of ITVS Community Cinema, free monthly screenings of films from the Emmy Award-winning series Independent Lens.

Community Cinema takes place in the Koret Auditorium of the SF Main Library, and in more than 90 cities nationally, bringing together communities to learn, discuss, and get involved in key social issues of our time.

Community Cinema SF and Eileen Fisher are hosting a free screening of the award-winning documentary “Wonder Women!: The Untold Story of American Superheroines” and then they’ll host a conversation with the Director and famed San Franciscan cartoonist Trina Robbins.

Wonder Women Movie Night & Costume Showcase
Tuesday, March 19, 2013 (5:45p)
Main Library, 100 Larkin, SF
FREE
, but RSVP is requested.

The screening will include:

  • Limited Edition Eileen Fisher bags will be given away on a first-come first serve basis
  • Free pre-film snack reception
  • Film screening and discussion

Plus, they’re celebrating the heroes in our lives by hosting a costume showcase. Whether its Super Man, Cat Woman, a Firefighter, or someone in your life – pay tribute by dressing up.

All are welcome, costume or not, and changing rooms are located on the floor of the screening.

In Wonder Women: The Untold Story of American Superheroines by Kristy Guevara-Flanagan, you can trace the fascinating evolution and legacy of the original comic book Amazon, Wonder Woman.

From her creation in the 1940s to the superhero blockbusters of today, pop culture’s representations of powerful women often reflect society’s anxieties about women’s liberation.
