French Film & Wine Night | SF

To help non-French speakers discover French cinema, The Alliance Française of San Francisco is offering a weekly Tuesday night French film viewing.

The film night takes place in their cozy theater with free servings of wine. Admission is free, but a $5 donation at the door is always appreciated.

Don’t know French? Don’t worry, all films are screened with English subtitles, and includes a brief talk and discussion about the film.

"Everyday Objects" (2013) | French Film & Wine Night | SF

In the 2013 film Everyday Objects, Merle arrives on a dull summer day at the villa of her boyfriend Romuald only to find closed doors. He had invited her to visit him in the south of France, but himself departed to an unknown destination. So now Merle has to deal with his uncooperative children, celebrate Emma’s 13th birthday and endure the insolence of the 16-year-old Felix, who feels her presence as a provocation. Soon, the absence of the host is hardly noticeable.

Please Note: On this occasion, the weekly French movie night will take place at the Goethe-Institut (530 Bush Street) and not at Alliance Francais, as it typically does. They will still serve free red and white wine.

2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty, a treaty of friendship putting an end to centuries of enmities between the two countries. Alliance Française and the Goethe-Institut San Francisco celebrate the coming together of the arts, commerce, business, politics and, last but not least, the people of France and Germany.
