Event Details

Friday Nights at the De Young on July 13, 2012 starts at 5pm, not 6pm as we originally posted. We apologize for the confusion.

Friday Nights at the de Young offers a variety of interdisciplinary arts programs, including live music, poetry, films, dance, tours, talks and more. Season Eight is every Friday night from March 30 – November 23, 2012.

This weekly after-hours art “happening” changes every week, but typically includes a mix of live music, dance performances, film screenings, panel discussions, lectures, artist demonstrations, special performances, hands-on art activities and more. Plus the observation tower is open until 8:15pm.

July 13, 2012: Bal Populaire

Bal Populair in celebration of Bastille Day
Music by La Guinguette with special dance performance celebrating the legendary Moulin Rouge by Kitty Kitty Bang Bang

La Guinguette
6:30–7:15 p.m.
7:45–8:30 p.m.

Close your eyes and let the music of La Guinguette transport you into the heart of Paris. Enchanting melodies made famous by the likes of Edith Piaf, Lucienne Delyle, and Jacques Brel are woven into an embroidery of accordion, guitar, and vocals, performed in the original French.

Kitty Kitty Bang Bang
7:20 p.m.

Wowing the hip and cool everywhere they’ve prowled, Kitty Kitty Bang Bang gives you the most BANG for your buck: more slapstick humor, more pretty girls in pretty corsets, and higher kicks than a kitty can muster. Watch out as the Kitties heat up the house and tease out a chuckle.
