Event Details

Friday Nights at the de Young | Fall 2018

One of San Francisco’s most celebrated after-hours museum events returns for a fall season of 2018.

These nine Friday Nights feature free admission to the main-level galleries highlighted by a reinterpretation of contemporary art in their permanent collection and new acquisitions called Specters of Disruption. In addition, Friday Nights will offer reduced-price tickets of $14 to the exhibition Contemporary Muslim Fashions from 6–8:30 pm.

Through social-media moments and in-person dialogue, visitors can engage and commune with the art and with one another in a warm and welcoming setting. Enjoy specialty drinks and mocktails, coffees, teas, and snacks. Bring your friends. Strike a pose at the selfie wall. Listen to music. Make art. Activities take place from 6–8:30 pm.

Rockabilly & Modern Love | Friday Nights at the de Young | Fall 2018

WILSEY COURT | 6:00–8:45 p.m.
Art speed dating, performance art, music, and more.

Live Music: Ron Loney & the Phantom Movers
Singer/guitarist Roy Loney, who was the front man for the Flamin Groovies during that band’s original rockabilly/R&B-inspired incarnation, continued in a similar vein in his solo career, rock’n’rolling with the devotion of a true believer. After leaving the Groovies in 1975, Loney assembled the Phantom Movers and maintained the rootsy spirit he had brought to the band, emphasizing raw, unpretentious American grit immune to the whims of popular taste.

KORET AUDITORIUM | 7:00 p.m.
An Evening with Danny Lyon ($5)
In conversation with Julian Cox, chief curator and curator of photography, FAMSF, and Lisa Sutcliffe, assistant curator of photography, SFMOMA. Lyon will discuss his 50-plus-year career as a photographer and filmmaker. This event is followed by a book signing. Tickets are required for this lecture. Free for members & $5 for non-members.
