Friday Nights at the de Young offers a variety of interdisciplinary arts programs, including live music, poetry, films, dance, tours, talks and more. Season Eight is every Friday night from March 30 – November 23, 2012.

This weekly after-hours art “happening” changes every week, but typically includes a mix of live music, dance performances, film screenings, panel discussions, lectures, artist demonstrations, special performances, hands-on art activities and more. Plus the observation tower is open until 8:15pm.

Friday, July 6, 2012 – The Sights & Sounds of The Urban Jungle

The Henna Garden North African Ensemble
6:30–8:30 p.m.

Gaultier was deeply inspired by North Africa. Journey to the markets of Marrakesh with Bay Area master musicians and be transported to the land that Gaultier loved as the Henna Garden North African Ensemble presents a fusion of  North African and Arabic music. Instrumentsto include the oud, kanun, violin, doumbek, and tambourine.

Henna Tattoos
6:30–8:30 p.m.

As you shake your hips, celebrate the evening and the region with a Gaultier-inspired Henna Garden henna tattoo, for a nominal fee.

7pm (Wilsey Court)

This special interview screened on the CW network documents the first-ever meeting of Jean Paul Gaultier and Lady Gaga in the designer’s atelier in Paris: Gaga talks about fame, fashion, her fans, and more.
