Follow Kori Dean, a certified arborist, on a meandering walk through the Mission District as you examine the trees, parks, and nature areas that dot the urban landscape. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for this two-hour, rain or shine (or fog) tour through a neighborhood normally associated with good Mexican food and topnotch dive bars.
Friends of the Urban Forest, a local nonprofit that teams with home owners to take out slabs of San Francisco sidewalks and replace them with trees, sponsors the event. They mostly rely on volunteers like Kori to green the city, at the rate of nearly 1,000 trees planted each year since 1981.
