Event Details

Emma Cline’s debut novel The Girls unfolds during the wild and violent end of the 1960s in Northern California and focuses on Evie Boyd, a lonely and thoughtful teenager captivated by a group of girls. Over the course of one summer, Evie becomes enthralled with Suzanne, a mesmerizing older girl and is drawn into the circle of a soon-to-be infamous cult and its charismatic leader.

As Evie spends more time their sprawling ranch hidden in the hills, she doesn’t realize she is coming closer and closer to unthinkable violence and to that moment in a girl’s life when everything can change. Drawing from the era of hippies, cults, and Haight-Ashbury legend, The Girls is a new take on a familiar tale.
