On Saturday, January 3rd Mighty Presents Global Beats, a series of music events celebrating World Music featuring tastemakers from some of the Bay Area’s best purveyors of forward-thinking world dance music. For this edition Afrolicous’ Pleasuremaker, Bembe and thePeople’s DJ Cecil, and J Boogie will be taking you on a musical journey through a multi-genre night of Afrobeat, Latin grooves, disco, tropical, house, and bass driven grooves.
Free before 11 pm with an RSVP required. Free tropical rum punch from 9-10 pm.
About The Artists:
- Pleasuremaker is a visionary artist who has made a large impact on the San Francisco musical scene and the international funk community. His original music is heard around the world at bars, restaurants, commercials, and by DJ’s. He has played many many festivals, world class venues and alongside many legends of music including Grandmaster Flash, Novalima, Thievery Corporation, Mr.Lif, Nickodemus, Scientist, Balkan Beat Box. The co-founder of Afrolicious a Thursday night DJ residency, band, and organization he and his amazing cast of musicians and guests artists performed original music and remixes on a weekly basis to a packed house @ the highly esteemed Elbo Room in San Francisco for the last 7 years as part of the legendary Afrolicious scene. Pleasure also led the Afrolicious band to support Thievery Corporation at Red Rocks in 2012 and The Greek Theater in 2013. He has performed at such festivals as High Sierra Festival, Electric Forest, Wakarusa, Burning Man, Sea of Dreams, Lightning in a Bottle, Earthdance, Lights All Night, Snow Globe and many more as a DJ and band leader.
- DJ Cecil is a well loved musician, producer & DJ who is known to journey audiences across a wide and beautiful spectrum of rhythms. Guided by a deep love for music, DJ Cecil is also co-founder of three notable parties, Bembe, thePeople and SKIN. From Soulful House to Soca, Kudoro to Afro-Beat, his signature “dance floor ready” sound keeps him a prominent figure in the Bay Area music scene. He has been recognized by Independent Artists Week for his hard work, innovation and dedication to the community and is currently an Ocha Recording Artist.
- San Francisco resident and world-renowned DJ/producer J Boogie continues to challenge the boundaries of the music world across genres, styles, languages and borders throughout his 20-year career. This truly unique artist speaks to his listeners through a diverse musical language he created integrating techniques and musical genres including downtempo, dub, hip–hop, soul, reggae, funk, African, Latin, bhangra, dancehall, disco, electro, bass, tropical, dubstep and house. Constantly revolutionizing the game, creating new sounds, and always keeping fans on their feet, J-Boogie continues to lift music to its full potential through his distinct approach and one-of-a-kind style.
