Golden Gate Park Lunar New Year Celebration (2024)

Join us for a Lunar Celebration on Sunday, February 11 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Participants of all ages can try your hand at traditional calligraphy, origami, and auspicious crafts for all ages! Dance along with festive performances – try your luck at our games of fortune and win a prize. Get into the spirit and welcome the Year of the Dragon alongside the San Francisco Bay Area AAPI community! After the event, come visit the SF Botanical Gardens. Admission to the SF Botanical Garden is free for San Francisco residents, those qualifying for the Museums for All program, Gardens members, and Veterans. (more information).

Presented in collaboration with SF Bay Area Moms , Seed and Soul , San Francisco Public Library , Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and community partners from the AAPI community.

About our Performers 

Greg Lum will be performing classic magic tricks, some having their origins as far back as the Tang Dynasty. He was born and raised in San Francisco, works for SF Recreation and Parks and is a Instructor of Floral Design at the Randall Museum.

Jing Cai Taichi Team is a community group focused on building stronger body and improving internal energy flow. They enjoy group Tai chi at West Sunset playground as they learn to relax and enjoy life, feeling younger at heart.

Jiu Jin Shan Chinese Chorus is a singing group established since 1992. Its goal is to encourage the community, including the ones who are tone-deaf, to use the bel canto vocal technique to sing Mandarin, English and Italian songs.

The singing group has hosted and performed so many successful concerts in the past 30 years. Small groups of their members constantly perform and give joy to the elders in local senior centers.

San Francisco Sunset District Dance Group has been established for 22 years. Enthusiastic dance and fitness participants have learned various dance styles at the Sunset Recreation Center, experiencing both joy and physical exercise. In their spare time, members actively participate in social events, promoting traditional Chinese culture, and have been featured multiple times in local prominent media.

Asian Art Museum of San Francisco (entire program)Located in the heart of San Francisco, the Asian Art Museum is home to one of the world’s finest collections of Asian art, with more than 20,000 awe-inspiring artworks ranging from ancient jades and ceramics to contemporary video installations. Join the Asian Art Museum in some fun crafts!

SF Bay Area Moms Booth (entire program) Participants of all ages can try your hand at traditional calligraphy, origami, and auspicious crafts for all ages! Try your luck at our games of fortune and win a prize!

Seed and Soul (entire program) Join Seed and Soul for a fun workshop (sign up link coming soon) and learn from local plant societies and experts about caring for popular houseplant varieties including the Hoya which is known for prosperity and good luck!

San Francisco Public Library (entire program) San Francisco Public Library is offering a book giveaway to the community. Pick up a free book and information about library programs and services.

San Francisco Botanical Garden Youth Education (entire program) Come create garden lanterns (windsocks) using construction paper and decorate them with plant materials from the garden.

Admission Information 

This event is free to attend. This reservation is not a ticket to admission for the Gardens.  Admission to the SF Botanical Garden is free for San Francisco residents, those qualifying for the Museums for All program, Gardens members, and Veterans. (more information).
