Friday, November 17— 3p Bike ride from Golden Gate Park’s Conservatory of Flowers to the ocean at Great Highway and Judah— 4p Happy Hour with live music and small bites from local restaurants at Great Highway and Judah— 5p Sunset viewing
All APEC delegates and staff are invited to close out a long week of meetings with a “Summit to the Sea.” The public is invited, too.
I had the idea for this event after the overwhelming success of the pilot Sunset Night Market in September.
The path to San Francisco’s future seems to run through the neighborhoods of the Sunset. Even the New York Times has noticed. We’re mentioned in several recent @nytimes articles:
— “The Outer Sunset has flourished while downtown struggles.”
— “Thousands of people packed Irving Street for the inaugural Sunset Night Market, eating Asian delicacies and watching ballerinas dance in the road.”
— The Great Highway was named one of “52 places for a changed world” when used as a park.
Now, we’re going to highlight the best of the Sunset on the last day of the APEC summit.
If you’re not able to ride, just show up for the happy hour party at Judah and Great Highway at 4p on 11/17.
The event is produced by Friends of Great Highway Park. Supervisor Joel Engardio came up with the idea. It is co-sponsored by State Senator Scott Wiener and Supervisor Myrna Melgar.
Please encourage your friends and any bike-riding celebrities you know to join us. We’d love to see Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau on the joy ride. Or transportation Secretary @PeteButtigieg
