Historian John Martini grew up playing on lands that would one day become part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area — Fort Funston, Thornton Beach, and Lands End. Over the course of 45 years he worked as a volunteer, seasonal ranger, permanent ranger, law enforcement ranger, supervisory ranger, museum curator, and full circle back to volunteer.
John will share his personal story of coming to appreciate the incredible diversity of resources found in his home park, and his pride in participating in the growth of the “urban park” as it evolved into a national park for the 21st century.
