Event Details

The SF Maritime National Historical Park celebrates Women’s History Month with a nod to the impact of women on the maritime industry.

Come aboard the Balclutha, the three-masted, steel-hulled, square-rigged ship built in 1886 to carry a variety of cargo all over the world. It’s now resting at the Hyde Street Pier.

Discover the daily activities of the captain’s wife and daughter on long sailing voyages. Hear stories of feminine fortitude and bravery during the rough Cape Horn passage.

Also check out the Exhibit (Open Everyday through March) “Women Who Changed Maritime History” at the Visitor Center at 499 Jefferson Street & Hyde you can view a photo exhibition illustrating the often overlooked impact women have had on maritime history. Free admission.

San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park is located at the west end of Fisherman’s Wharf, in San Francisco. The park includes a magnificent fleet of historic ships, visitor center, Aquatic Park Historic District, and library.
