History Tour Series: Churches & Temples | Oakland

Downtown Oakland is undergoing a renaissance (let’s not call it gentrification, just to be nice). Local residents and visitors can glimpse both today’s happening scene and landmarks from Oakland’s past during the 2011 Oakland Tours season.

There are eight different tours, each led by a volunteer guide and beginning at 10 a.m. from various starting locations depending on the itinerary.

Today’s Tour: Churches & Temples

Visit historic places of worship and learn about their architecture and influence on the development of Oakland. Highlighted buildings include First Presbyterian, First Congregational, and First Christian churches as well as Temple Sinai.
Tour begins at 10:00 a.m. in front of the First Presbyterian Church, Broadway at 27th Street.

This tour (Number 7) also meets on Wednesdays on June 22, Aug 17 & Oct 19. Saturdays on July 23 & Sept 17.
