Downtown Oakland is undergoing a renaissance (let’s not call it gentrification, just to be nice). Local residents and visitors can glimpse both today’s happening scene and landmarks from Oakland’s past during the 2011 Oakland Tours season.
There are eight different tours, each led by a volunteer guide and beginning at 10 a.m. from various starting locations depending on the itinerary.

Today’s Tour: Oakland Waterfront
The images of author Jack London will surround you as you tour the historic square and waterfront. Visit a turn-of-the-century wholesale produce district still in operation and see the USS Potomac, the restored yacht of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.Tour begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Jack London Square entry arch, foot of Broadway.
This tour (Number 6) also meets on Wednesdays on July 6, Aug 31 & Sept 28. Saturdays on Aug 6 & Oct 29.
