Freespace Pop-Up Community Center
Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.
Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.
Come back for another ideas –> action workshop with facilitators Maura Dilley and Marc O’Brien, and the Neighborland Team.
During the course of the workshop, Maura and Marc will help Project Leaders and their group get to the core of their challenge. We’ll go through exercises that will generate fun/innovative alternatives to consider in pushing the ideas forward. We’ll then prototype these ideas in a fast-paced, wrong thinking environment.
Project Leaders, along with others who participate in the workshop, will walk away with a unique process for taking their own ideas to the next level.
There will also be a potluck that night, so bring a dish, make a plate, and come prepare to jam on some ideas that will brighten our city.
Tonight’s topic: How can we foster a stronger, safer, more connected neighborhood in Mid Market?
Possible solutions
- Painted sidewalks and parking spaces
- A “Crate of discovery” of what is possible for homeless and unemployed people in Mid Market in San Francisco.
- More local organizing groups in Mid Market in San Francisco.
