Event Details

With India & Africa: A Tribute to John Coltrane, the 16-member ensemble Asian American Orchestra brings a unique multicultural vision to twelve compositions written by and/or associated with John Coltrane. For the last dozen years, percussionist-composer Anthony Brown’s innovative Asian American Orchestra has reinvented classics of American music by composers Ellington, Monk, Mingus, and Gershwin from a Pacific Rim perspective by mixing instruments of European and American vintage with those of various Asian cultures.

At this performance AAO will showcase North and South Indian instrumentalists and African percussion in new arrangements of classic Coltrane compositions including “Living Space,” “Olé,” “After the Rain,” “Liberia,” “Dahomey Dance,” and the extended works, “India” and “Africa.”
