On international Women’s Day an American writer from Detroit and an Irish writer from Dublin, discuss their books which share themes of managing personal loss, loyalty to family, and joy in life.
In his book, A Prayer for the Departed, Bill Broder honors the elders of his family whose 20th century lives were steeped in the rich mix of a secular America and Jewish belief and ritual.
Renée Gibbons was born in Dublin, Ireland and escaped to Paris when she was seventeen. She ended up in San Francisco, which became the base of her life as a writer, actor, singer, and peace activist.
