Hironao and Osamu Hamada, Washi paper artisans from Kochi prefecture, will visit Kala Art Institute as part of their US 2013 tour on September 21, 2013.
The Hamada brothers will demonstrate traditional papermaking techniques as well as offer a lecture on Japanese paper (washi).
Hironao and Osamu are two of only a few artisans still making traditional Japanese papers by hand. Hironao apprenticed with their grandfather, Sajio Hamada, who is a Living National Treasure of Japan.
A special reception will follow the demonstration.
