“Java & Jazz”: Coffee, Pastries & Jazz | Concord

Visit Concord is proud to announce an amazing lineup of events in honor of 50 years of Jazz in Concord.  A monthly Java & Jazz series offered June through August benefits the Concord Historical Society and shares the history of Concord Records, the Concord Jazz Festival, and Concord jazz great – Dave Brubeck.

Java & Jazz

This three part series invites guests to the Concord Historical Society to enjoy coffee, pastries and a morning filled with all things jazz, taking place Saturday, June 22nd, July 27th and August 24th from 10 am to noon.

Guest speakers include:

  • June 22: Frank Dorritie is a performer, producer, arranger, educator, composer and author who worked at Concord Records for many years. Frank will share behind the scenes stories about recording sessions, the evolution of the industry and host a listening party with music from his private collection.
  • July 27: Ellen Herdegen will share the history and tales of the Concord Jazz Festival.  Ellen worked on the first inaugural Concord Summer Music Festival in 1969 and continued to be part of the production for 20 years. She will share her personal experiences, anecdotes and rare memorabilia.
  • August 24: Dr. Matthew Zebley takes the stage to share the history of jazz, background on Dave Brubeck and perform live with his band. Matt is an educator, composer, jazz artist and multi-instrumentalist. He will provide an in depth look at West Coast Jazz, its composition and overall style.

Admission is a donation of $5 per session or $12 for all three.  All proceeds benefit the Concord Historical Society. Attendees will receive a complimentary logo coffee tumbler with each ticket purchase.
