Join this free class to learn about the classical Japanese theatre tradition of Kabuki.
San Mateo Kabuki Club is a well-established group that holds classes on the first Sunday of every month, focusing on classic performances on film and participate in related events in the area.
The club is also active in an online community. Anyone is welcome to join the Club’s classes and online community Classes are open to the public.

Topic: Kabuki Actors' Children | CANCELLED: Kabuki Free Theater Class | San MateoThe San Mateo Kabuki Club is holding a class focusing on Kataoka Sennosuke, son of Kataoka Takataro and grandson of Kataoka Nizaemon, at 1:30 pm on Sunday, May 5, 2013. The topic of the class is “How Kabuki Actors’ Children are Growing Up in Their Field.”
The class will include two videos:
1. Documentary: Kataoka Sennosuke’s first time on the stage with his father Kataoka Takataro and his grandfather Kataoka Nizaemon in November 2004 at Kabukiza. He was 4-year-old. He played the “young man” role in “The Festival.”
2. “Ren jishi” (lion dance). In June 2010, Sennnosuke played “a child-shishi” role with Nizaemon. Sennosuke was 11 years old.
The videos will be shown in Japanese, with an adequate introduction and synopsis provided in English.
