Join the Crosscurrents family for a live joyful evening featuring Bay Area voices. Hana Baba hosts a night of storytelling, poetry, dance and music to uplift and inspire.

Experience your favorite Crosscurrents features, live and in person, including Sights & Sounds with Jenee Darden and poet Paul Corman-Roberts, alongside performances by Uncuffed’s Greg Eskridge and How Wild’s Marissa Ortega-Welch. The Shabbal Dance Company weaves the night together with their art of Sudanese dance, music, and culture.

Hana Baba is an award-winning radio journalist and host of “Crosscurrents,” the daily newsmagazine on NPR member station KALW Public Radio in San Francisco. She is also co-host/co-producer of The Stoop podcast, telling stories from across the Black Diaspora.

Jeneé Darden is an award-winning journalist, author, public speaker and proud Oakland native. She is the executive producer and host of the weekly arts segment Sights & Sounds as well as the series Sights + Sounds Magazine.

Greg Eskridge is a founding member of the Uncuffed radio program and podcast. For over a decade in San Quentin, Greg fostered an atmosphere of professionalism and dedication which led to the program producing great content and winning numerous awards. On July 23, 2024, Greg was released from San Quentin prison after serving 30 years and 25 days. He was welcomed by family, friends, and both current and former members of the KALW team. A few months later, Greg began working full-time as Uncuffed’s first Leadership Fellow, preparing him for leadership roles in the program. Greg looks forward to continuing to elevate the voices of system-impacted individuals.

Marissa Ortega-Welch is an award-winning radio and print journalist, whose stories have been featured by NPRRevealLatino USAThe California Report Magazine, and High Country News magazine, among others. She came to radio with a decade of work experience in science and environmental education. Marissa has been traveling in wilderness for over 20 years, guiding trips, conducting scientific field work, and backpacking for fun.

Paul Corman-Roberts is the author Bone Moon Palace from Black Lawrence Press (2021) a CLMP Firecracker nominated full length poetry collection. He is also author of the graphic chapbook The Sincere (with illustrator Ray Swaney) from Libran Apocalypse Books (2022.) He is a founder and current organizer of the Beast Crawl Lit Festival in Oakland CA. He currently teaches workshops for the San Francisco Creative Writing Institute. He sometimes fills in as a drummer for the U.S. Ghostal Service, The Jennifer Blowdryer Band and the Poznansky Sisters, but mostly he is just exhausted.

Shabbal Dance Company is a non profit group dedicated to the appreciation of Sudanese dance, music and culture.
