Event Details

It’s a tough time for local bookstores, what with the social distancing and the sheltering in place. So we’re raising funds to help local Bay Area bookstores stay in business, with a series of fundraisers. Fridays will feature readings for kids, and we’re incredibly lucky and thrilled to feature Newbery Award-winner Katherine Applegate at our first Friday event.

The author:

Katherine Applegate is the Newbery Medal–winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author of numerous books for young readers, including The One and Only Ivan, Crenshaw, Wishtree, the Endling series, the Roscoe Riley Rules chapter book series, and, with her husband, Michael Grant, the Animorphs series. Her newest book, The One and Only Bob, a sequel to The One and Only Ivan, will publish May 5, 2020.

The Disney movie adaptation of The One and Only Ivan is scheduled for a summer, 2020 release. Its stars include Angelina Jolie, Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, Helen Mirren, and Danny DeVito. Danny DeVito will also be reading the audiobook of The One and Only Bob.

The beneficiary:

Book Passage has served the Bay Area for more than 40 years, providing the community with an array of author events, writing and language classes, and highly-respected annual conferences.

A world renowned community bookstore, we offer a wide variety of books ranging from children’s literature to travel guides, from top-selling fiction to mystery novels, and we continue to work diligently with community and nonprofit organizations.

Book Passage has two stores—one in Corte Madera, and one in the San Francisco Ferry Building.

Every penny you spend on this event will directly to Book Passage.

How does it work?

We use the conferencing system Zoom. After you sign up you’ll get an email with the Zoom access code. (Check that Eventbrite is using your current email address.) You don’t have to join with video, but it’s nice to see faces.
