Lake Merritt’s Free BBQ Day: “BBQ While Being Black” | Oakland

In reaction to an incident in April where the police were called on people BBQing, organizers have set up a “BBQWB” event -aka. ‘BBQ While Being Black” – A free event to gather at Lake Merritt’s bandstand on Sunday and celebrate community with free food being donated by tons of local businesses.

We need real numbers Oakland!
This free event “BBQ While being Black or #BBQWB” is a direct response to the woman who called the police ?‍♀️ on the brothas bbqing! And to bring awareness of conscious racial bias!
Show Up and Show Out!, who’s really coming yah’ll? TOWNUP! What are you bringing!? LOVE!
Bring your (Smokey Joe) grill, foldout chair and blankets, most importantly bring your BEAUTIFUL BLACK SELVES!
Let’s show em how we use to roll at Da Lake on Sunday’s!
Let’s be respectful of Lake Merritt rules and have hella fun!
