This Friday night come to the de Young Museum to celebrate Black History Month with a myriad of events including DJs, spoken word by San Francisco poet laureate Devorah Major, Live musical performance of Negro spirituals, Dance and drum performance and live artist demonstations.
6:00–6:30 p.m. Music by DJ Mpenzi
6:30–6:45 p.m. Spoken word by San Francisco poet laureate, devorah major.
6:45–7:15 p.m. Live music by Lawrence Beamen singing African American classics, Negro spirituals, neo-soul, and R&B with a string quartet
7:15–7:30 p.m. Dance and drum performance by Bumpity Thump dance troupe
7:45–8:15 p.m. Live music by Lawrence Beamen singing African American classics, Negro spirituals, neo-soul, and R&B with a live band
8:15–8:45 p.m. Music by DJ Mpenzi6:00-8:45 p.m.
Live artist demonstrations by Karen Seneferu, Malik Seneferu, and Nanette Harris, and a variety of fun activities including collage art, jewelry making, and hair braiding for all ages with the youth of Mo’ Magic.
About Friday Nights at the De Young
On Friday nights the entire museum is open until 8:45 p.m. Friday Nights at the de Young offers a variety of interdisciplinary arts programs, including live music, poetry, films, dance, tours, and lectures. The cafe is open with a special Friday Nights dinner menu, and a no-host cocktail bar is serving drinks. There are art making activities for everyone. All Friday Night programming is free unless otherwise noted.
