SF’s “King of the Streets” 2026: Lowrider Parade, Car Show & Hopping Contest

Usually with lowriders, the key is to get as low as you can go. But at San Francisco’s annual King of the Streets celebration, we’ll also get to see how high. The San Francisco Lowrider Council returns to the Mission on Saturday, September 19, for its 2nd annual Lowrider Parade, car show and legendary hopping competition, with 300+ lowriders expected to line Mission Street.

The 2026 celebration is extra special because the San Francisco Lowrider Council is celebrating its 45th anniversary. The day kicks off with a special anniversary art exhibit at the Mission Cultural Center, featuring historic photos, artifacts and artwork tracing the Council’s roots in the Mission and the evolution of lowrider culture. Then, from 1 to 3pm, hundreds of lowriders will cruise down Mission Street in the Lowrider Parade, which will be broadcast live on CBS.

After the parade, the party shifts into high gear with the Lowrider Car Show, featuring more than 300 cars on Mission Street, followed by the “King of the Streets” Hopping Competition from 3 to 5pm at 24th and Mission. Watch hydraulic-equipped lowriders bounce, lift and dance their way through the competition as some of the country’s top riders compete for championship titles and cash prizes.

The celebration is free and open to the public and takes place during National Hispanic Heritage Month. Beyond the chrome, candy-colored paint and bouncing hydraulics, the event celebrates the lowrider movement’s history as a form of artistic expression, cultural identity and community pride. The San Francisco Lowrider Council was founded in 1981 as part of a fight against racial profiling and the ban on cruising in the Mission, eventually helping restore the right to cruise on Mission Street.

Featuring historical artifacts, fine art, photography and a retrospective of the San Francisco Lowrider Council’s 45 year history.
