Curated by Amy Pederson, La Quebradora explores lucha libre, or Mexican professional wrestling, as a platform for mapping Mexico’s cultural history and the social relations that echo beyond its borders. Through video, sculpture, painting, and performance the exhibit addresses themes of redemption, salvation, identity, and the spectacle.

Opening Reception Specials:
6:00 pm — Appearance by legendary luchador MIL MASCARAS.
7:00 pm — Live mini-match in the MCCLA Theater: “KKK vs. BLACK PANTHERS.
8:00pm — DJ set by: Juan Luna-Avin

Exhibition dates: June 2 – August 4, 2012

The dynamic selection of artists includes: Carlos Amorales, Gina Arizpe, Artemio, Juan Bastardo, Edgar Cobian, Christian Franco, Enrique Hernandez, Nina Hoechtl, Felipe Manzano, Israel Martinez, Antonio Monroy, Ruben Gutierrez, and Joaquin Segura.
