CANCELED: East Bay Burner Social | Oakland

> EVENT UPDATE: This event is no longer taking place.

East Bay Burners are a group of Burning Man devotees who all live around the East Bay and get together monthly to talk, exchange ideas, teach, learn and have fun.

The East Bay Burner Social takes place monthly in the run-up to the festival and features a different speaker or topic of discussion each time. The group is a great way to meet new Playa friends, or if you’re a beginner, to figure out what Burning Man is all about.

The East Bay Burner Socials are family friendly (kids welcome) wheelchair accessible, and to facilitate discourse, don’t have loud music.

In February you can hear from Marco Cochrane, the artist best known for his giant sculptures Bliss (currently on Treasure Island) and Truth is Beauty. Marco will present his next piece, R-Evolution, the final sculpture in The Bliss Project trilogy.

Free, but an RSVP is recommended.

You’ll also hear from Atticus “J” Wolf, Executive Director of m0xy, the new Burner Friendly, community based arts center in Oakland. Atticus will share his vision for an art incubator that empowers local artists, and how he and his team have already begun fulfilling the vision in m0xy. This is something of a Burner coming out party for m0xy, so come out and see Oakland’s newest art space.

Lastly, Scott McNeil will give a brief presentation, Extending the Playa, about ongoing opportunities for Burners.

They are also rolling out the food trucks to sate your appetites.
