Event Details

Join attorney and DxE co-founder Wayne Hsiung in a conversation about the New York government’s effort to criminally prosecute a woman for giving stray animals care.
In August 2022, Tracy was charged with grand larceny after she gave food, water, and shelter to two calves, Little Willow and Ishamael, who wandered onto her sanctuary (Asha Farm) in upstate New York. Tracy was placed in hand and leg shackles, and the baby cows were seized and given to a New York State Trooper. Tracy’s case has triggered nationwide outcry. But it stands for much more than one woman’s freedom — or the safety of two cows. The case is about two legal conceptions of animals: one sees them as “property” for human beings to exploit for profit; the other sees them as living beings to protect and even love.
At this meetup, you’ll hear about Tracy’s heartbreaking story — and the crucial opportunity we have to defend Tracy, Little Willow and Ishmael, and the right to rescue animals who are sick, injured, or stray.
