Did you know that on May 5th of 1862, the Mexican Army defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla? This unlikely defeat became a symbol of hope and resistance. Although not a major holiday in Mexico, it gained popularity in the United States during the rise of the Chicano movement. Cinco de Mayo is truly an American holiday.

Through public programs, The Mexican Museum are committed to promote Mexican, Mexican American, Chicano, and Latin America’s artistic expressions and cultures. Come celebrate 5 de Mayo during extended evening hours on Friday May 4th, from 5 to 8 pm.

Get ready for Mariachi, Folklore Dancers, Margaritas and more courtesy of  “Cuicacalli Ballet Folklórico”, “Mariachi Juvenil La Misión”, and “Tommy’s Margarita Mix”.

Visit The Mexican Museum and explore “Family, Homeland, Revolution: Stories of the Chicano Movement”, an exhibition featuring over 40 works by Chicano artists from the Civil Rights Movement to today.
