MoAD: Museum of the African Diaspora Free Museum Day (SF)

The last Saturday of each month is now free at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco thanks to Kaiser Permanente. The new THRIVE @MoAD community day offers free admission 11am-6pm.

Visitors can see MoAD’s newest exhibitions including David Huffman: Terra Incognita, the first museum survey of the Oakland artist’s expansive Traumanaut series developed over 3 decades; Elegies: Still Lifes in Contemporary Art, a group exhibition of international artists, including Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Sadie Barnette, Awol Erizku, Deana Lawson, and Rashaad Newsome, who have appropriated the still life genre to create work that reflects on Black diasporic identities, histories, and collective experiences; and the latest in MoAD’s Emerging Artists Program series, Cynthia Aurora Brannvall’s solo exhibition The Threads that Bind.

Across the globe, museums are increasingly recognized as having a role to play in personal and social well-being that is complementary to the healthcare industry. Studies have shown that engagement with art and culture aid in brain function, processing trauma, and to reducing the stigma of mental health. Museum of the African Diaspora and Kaiser Permanente are committed to increasing access to the positive health outcomes of arts engagement and providing resources on overall well-being for our community.
