An Exhibit Featuring the Connections between 6 Mother/Daughter Artists

Mother Trees, the biggest in the forest, are connected to other forest trees and plants by their roots and a fungal network that communicates, shares resources and nurtures seedlings. Trees use the “mycorrhizal network” to send and receive chemical messages. This fungal highway is like the internet, coined the “Wood Wide Web” in the 1997 scientific journal, Nature, by Dr. Simard.

The exhibit, Mother Tree, celebrates the sustaining connections between Mothers and their Daughters made through photography, collage, painting and prose. Mother Tree features the work of mother-daughter artist pairs Ginny & Sally Parsons, Annie & Emily Heller, Jan & Emilie Watten, and Danielle Gilbert & Molly Boyle and Hopi Breton, Lee Zabin & Esther Zabin.
An opening reception will be held at Rhythmix Cultural Works on Saturday, May 15th from 4:00 – 6:30pm. It will be the first in-person event hosted at Rhythmix since the pandemic began one year ago. In addition to timed gallery viewings, attendees can enjoy community chalk drawing and live music in the Rhythmix outdoor courtyard. Rhythmix will adhere to Alameda County health guidelines, but in the event that in-person gatherings are no longer permitted in May, the reception will be presented virtually.
Mother Tree Exhibit Hours:
Saturday, May 15th 4:00 – 6:30pm (plus community chalk drawing and live music outdoors)
Saturdays, May 22nd – June 19th from 2:00 – 5:00pm
