The country’s largest dance week comes back to San Francisco (as well as the East Bay, North Bay and South Bay) for 2011.

The festival runs for 10 days April 22-May 1 and this year is bigger than ever with over 400 free dance events, a huge opening celebration, and dance events as diverse as Scottish dancing, salsa, tango, hip-hop, clogging, fire dance, Samba, aerial dance, hula – you name it and it’s probably happening at Bay Area National Dance Week and it’s free.

Highlights of Dance Week Day 8: Friday, April 29

1 pm – 3 pm
College of San Mateo Spring Dance Concert

Each semester, CSM presents a dance concert showcasing a variety of dance styles such as: ballet, ballroom, hip hop, modern, and tap. The dance concert features CSM’s Dance Classes, Performance Dance Ensemble Club, and Guest Artists.

7pm – 8:30 pm
Wushu/Tai-Chi/Hip-Hop Hybrid Class
Philein/ZiRu Productions’ shows off a new dance style called Tiger Hip-Hop that combines Modern/Ballet, Wushu, Taichi and Hip Hop. This is a class so they’ll show you how it goes.

11:30 am – 12:30 pm
Somatic Wellness Program
Through gentle movements experience how Body-Mind Centering and Feldenkrais help you move, breathe, feel an think with greater ease and efficiency, reduce pain and stress and prevent injury. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
