Saturn Cafe Parking Lot | Pacific Avenue and Spruce Street, Santa Cruz, CA
Submitted by the Event Organizer
Every New Year’s Eve since 2005, the Last Night DIY Parade & Street Party has been taking over Pacific Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz without city permits or other bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo (and they’re not intending to ask for it).
This do-it-yourself, grassroots de-centralized celebration includes a parade of musicians, street theater performers, puppet shows, square dancers, art bikes, stilt walkers, and circus acts (aka whatever those who show up want to do) to take over downtown for a whole evening of DIY adventure and entertainment.

Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz – Meet up in parking lot behind Saturn Cafe
The (disorganized) revelers typically meet at sunset around 5 pm near the Saturn Cafe parking lot, Pacific Avenue and Spruce Street in Santa Cruz. Parade takes off around 5:30 pm and ends in a street party at Pacific Avenue and Cooper Street.
Please note, details for DIY events like this can change at the last minute, so we recommend you check Facebook for updates. Also, keep in mind that the parade has had a tense relationship with the city, but they haven’t backed down. Please be respectful to the neighborhood and don’t get blind-drunk, so you can have fun this year and new years to come.
In their own words, “Don’t wait to see who else is involved or whether we will really pull this off. F*ck it. Jump in.”
