Event Details

Celebrate Black History Month as The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM) and Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) present a curator swap! Join MoAD’s Director of Public Programs Elizabeth Gessel for a talk on the Berkeley Tigers, a Levi’s(R)-clad, African American East Bay motorcycle club that formed in the 1940s. Then visit The CJM’s newest exhibition Levi Strauss: A History of American Style.

Plus, interact with Urban Works Agency’s life-size version of the game Bartertown, which tests how social networks can be re-shaped in an economy of favors and resource-sharing. Finally, don’t miss the Nathan Clevenger Quartet performing a tribute to the poet and musician David Berkman, of the indie-rock band the Silver Jews.

The evening is presented in conjunction with Culture for Community, a unique group of Yerba Buena districts institutions who have joined together to open their doors for free on February 20, 2020 and to feature programs focused on an issue of special importance to the Bay Area community. All are invited to participate in special events, activities, and museum and gallery hopping in the Yerba Buena Neighborhood.
