Metamorphosis | “NightLife” at California Academy of Sciences
Art and science unite for a special edition of NightLife, curated by California College of the Arts.

CCA Student Design Projects in African Hall:
6:30-10 pm: Explore over a dozen industrial, interaction, illustration, fashion, furniture and graphic designers from CCA as they showcase a transformative array of work, highlighting new technologies and innovative ideas that explore the concept of metamorphosis:

Steam Bending in the East Garden
6:30-10 pm: Learn about the woodworking technique of steam bending to make furniture and jewelry with CCA students Mateo Hao & Hannah Quinn.
Music & CCA Alumni Projects in the East Pavilion
6-10 pm: Check out CCA installations including a giant Icosahedron by Aling Loh, bike product display by Sunny Babbar, and free standing animal game by the CCA Illustration Dept.
6-10 pm, Live music with DJ’s Manitous and Mophono.
Multimedia Music Performances in the Coral Reef
7:30 pm: Jam to the beat of Oakland based producer, engineer, & sound designer Shortcircles.
8:30 pm: Get immersed in the soundscapes of multimedia guitarist Christopher Willits.
Video Projections in the Forum
6:30-10 pm: Check out large-scale looping video projections designed by CCA students.
Shadow Letters Near the Lower Swamp
6:30-10 pm: Experience two different typograpical messages that shift and change depending on the viewers perspective with CCA student Vera Bhargava.
6:30-10 pm: Transform into a tiger hunting prey at night with an interactive animal mask designed by Anette Shirinian,check out live performance pieces depicting rituals found in animal & insect behaviors, and experience a mobile sound performance using human voice with Marissa Katarina Bergmann.
Insect Specimens in the Project Lab
6-10 pm: Chat with scientific illustrator and Academy researcher Rachel Diaz-Bastin and discover how metamorphosis takes shape in butterflies, snakes and octopuses.
