Oakland Grand Prix Bike Race | 2019

On September 15th, 2019, The Oakland Grand Prix (OGP) will be racing its 15th year in downtown Oakland, CA. The goal of the race is to provide a fun, healthy, competitive environment where locals and out of towners alike can showcase the exciting sport of bicycle racing.

The OGP is a criterium, a specific type of bicycle race that features multiple laps around a relatively short (in this case just over half a mile), closed-loop course with dozens of racers jostling for position. Races last about an hour, and consist of several “races within a race”, called primes (pronounced “preems”), ensuring non-stop action. It has been described as NASCAR on bikes.
