Oakland “Local Love Day” Festival | Jack London Square

On the heels of the New York Times naming Oakland #5 on their list of places to visit in 2012, Jack London Square is planning a big “Local Love” day at their farmers’ market on April 29, 2012 to highlight what an amazing place Oakland is to live, work, visit, and play.

Enjoy a day of photo booths, farmers markets, free yoga, art, Oakland A’s giveaways and more.

Special Programming Scheduled for April 29 | Local Love Day

Post-It Mural Project for Art Murmur | 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Pick a word that describes something you love about Oakland, write it on a Post-It note, and become part of a mural project that will be installed in Uptown at the Art Murmur First Friday Art Walk on May 4! The project is being sponsored by Passport Oakland, a program promoting five new home communities by encouraging people to explore and discover all that Oakland has to offer. They’ll have stacks of Post-It Notes at the market for you to get creative with.

Polaroid Photo Booth | 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This May, Oakland celebrates its 160th anniversary, so we bought film to take 160 Polaroid snapshots of people who live in or love Oakland! The images will be uploaded to our Facebook page following the event, and will be shown at the Jack London Square Night Market on May 4! The photo “booth” will be run by Passport Oakland alongside their Post-It Mural Project.

Oakland Athletics Street Team | 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Oakland A’s street team will be running fun, free games and giveaways at the market, so come support the hometown team!

Friends of the Oakland Public Library Book Sale | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Support your local library by buying a cook book! The Friends of the Oakland Public Library — which operates the Bookmark Bookstore in Old Oakland — will have cook books, gardening books, and other food-related books for sale, with proceeds benefiting the library system.

Farmers Market | 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Bring your mat for FREE yoga on the lawn at 9:30 AM, $2 Farmers’ Market parking in the street-level lot at Embarcadero and Harrison (next to the Jack London Market building.)
