The 7th edition of the Oakland Short Film Festival invites you to experience the world through a radically different lens. Spanning two distinctive screening programs, our 2026 selection brings together 9 short films from 8 countries – bridging independent voices from Europe, Asia, South America, and the United States. This year’s curation is a vibrant tapestry of cinematic forms: from the quiet truth of documentary and the boundless imagination of animation to the raw emotion of student works and avant-garde experimental film. Each piece stands as a testament to the power of short-form storytelling to collapse distances and reveal deep, shared truths.
Welcome to OASFF2026!

Oakland Short Film Festival is organised by HF Productions, an international production company run by a collective of independent filmmakers, producers and marketing professionals. Our mission is to create a collection of film festivals that support independent filmmakers in a very competitive and often unfair industry. We believe there is disenchantment with the anonymity and exclusivity of the festival circuit. We aim to provide a support system for emerging talents and independent filmmakers, based entirely on their skillset and passion.
Shapeshifters Cinema & Brewery provides a venue and support for contemporary artists working with experimental and artist-made film, video, sound, music and other types of mediated performance. We host screenings and performances by local and visiting artists in our intimate 40-seat theatre and offer workshops on a variety of experimental and DIY moving image and sound production. Our storefront shop specializes in print publications, DVDs, sound recordings and other kinds of media made by artists who have screened or performed in our venue. In our brewery, we make a variety of small-batch, seasonal, hand-crafted beers, on-site in a space right behind the cinema. These are served (to 21+) at all our events as well as some off-site events.
