The official date of the founding of the Oakland Zoo is June 6, 1922, and we’re celebrating our actual birthday at our original birthplace, Snow Park, in downtown Oakland next to Lake Merritt. This extra special day will be full of fun and festivities for all ages to enjoy, free of charge. There will be live music, performances, food, drink, activities for the kids, and more. Mingle with us and other Oakland-based business and organizations that will be present at the event. It will be a day to celebrate not just the Zoo, but all of Oakland—the great city we live in and the history we all share together!

Please note this event takes place at Snow Park next to Lake Merritt (the original site of the zoo back in 1922) and not at the current Oakland Zoo.

Celebrate our centennial with a day of free fun and family-friendly entertainment at the Zoo’s birthplace Snow Park (Harrison and 20th St. next to Lake Merritt).
